Future Shock

This project is closely tied to When Will Our Memory Run Out?, both drawing inspiration from Alvin Toffler's Future Shock. While When Will Our Memory Run Out? explores the broader implications of technological evolution, this project hones in on our society's rapid transformations over the past hundred years. The first part delves into archival footage, uncovering visual fragments of the past to reflect on the pace of change. The second part examines the evolution of society through a curated exploration of news articles across different eras, showcasing recurring themes.

The Process

My initial concept was to create a title sequence centered around statistics, leaning into a more infographic-driven approach. However, I soon realized this would be difficult to achieve with the materials I wanted to use—archival footage and news articles. As a result, I decided to let the materials speak for themselves. The sequence transitions from a darker, more somber tone to a lighter and more hopeful one, reflecting the overall narrative arc.
